Pendleton Round Up's new grandstands half way completed

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, Ore.--  The new grandstands at the Pendleton Round-Up are almost half way finished.  Round-Up members and construction workers celebrated at a "topping out" ceremony Tuesday morning.

Everyone signed the steel beam, which was decorated with flags and a Christmas tree, a traditional symbol marking a safe construction job site.  Contractors, other workers, and Round-Up members watched as steel workers hoisted the beam to the top of the new grandstands.

Everyone there was excited about the milestone, especially because it comes in the Pendleton Round-Up's 100th year.  Randy Severe, President of the Round-Up Association, says, "This is a pretty thrilling day for the Pendleton Round Up.  We are replacing the west end of our grandstands with a new structure with a roof.  We've had 100 of the most fun years you can have.  Now, we're planning for the next 100."

The co-owner of WC Construction, Bob Wiles, says the work is on-time and on-budget.  They plan to finish before the rodeo starts in mid-September.
